School Reluctance & Refusal

How can I support a child anxious about school without dampening their motivation?

Behind school reluctance or refusal there is often depleted energy, strong anxiety, or difficulties at school (sensory, social, learning)—it isn't "laziness." First make home a secure "safe base" and prioritize rest and recovery. Rather than pushing attendance, listen to the child's anxieties and difficulties, share them with the school, and adjust the environment. Return in small steps (the nurse's room, short visits, being accompanied). Don't judge only by "went or didn't go"; respect the child's pace. Because an anxiety disorder can be underneath, also consult the school counselor or a professional.
