HugMap FAQ
Events vs Therapy

As they get older, school events increasingly overlap with therapy time. Which should I prioritize?

This changes case by case, with no fixed answer. In common: events have the value of experiences with peers, belonging, and memories; therapy has the value of continuous support—both meaningful. Whether it's a one-off event or a regular therapy, whether the child is looking forward to it, and whether it can be rescheduled change the judgment. What the family decides: whether to weight experience and participation or continuity of support is your choice. A guide: "which is the child looking forward to?" "can it be made up next time?" It's fine not to decide the same way every time. Telling the therapy provider the circumstances often gets a flexible response.
