HugMap FAQ
The Purpose of Developmental Support

Is developmental support meant to bring my child closer to "normal"?

The wish to "get closer to normal" is one many parents feel, and natural. In common: today's developmental support has shifted toward the aim of the child feeling secure, performing, and living more easily—not "correcting" toward typical development. "Reducing difficulties" and "remaking the child" are different. What the family decides: how far to aim for "being able" and where to cherish "as they are" changes with your family and the child's wishes. A guide: "is the child troubled?" "enjoying, feeling secure?" "do options and life widen?" "is the burden proportionate?" Either emphasis isn't wrong.
