The Sibling's Feelings

Sometimes a sibling feels embarrassed about their brother or sister with a disability. How should I take this?

A sibling feeling embarrassed is common in the course of growing up and isn't a bad feeling. First, without denying it, receive it—"you feel that way sometimes, don't you." Then explain the disability in an age-appropriate way and make a space where they can voice questions and frustrations. Respect the sibling's own time and activities, and keep telling them "you matter too." Meeting other siblings in the same position (sibling support) can also be a help.
