Answering the Child's Questions

How should I explain it if asked, "Will my disability be cured?"

Explain honestly and positively, matched to their age. "It's not something to 'cure' like an illness—it's a part of you that you'll go on living with," and "but with adjustments, practice, and help from those around you, the things you can do and the things that feel easier will keep increasing." Rather than "not curable equals bad," help them hold the outlook that "you'll find ways that suit you." Worry about the future is often underneath, so first accept the feeling and share, concretely, images of people they can relate to and of adults living and working, which brings reassurance.
