Activities with Rules
Can my child also take part in activities that require understanding rules, like team sports?
Activities needing rule understanding can be joined with some devising. Showing rules with pictures or short words, narrowing to one role, starting in a small group, and joining after watching make it easier to enter. Making the goal "the fun of moving your body, the experience of being with peers" rather than winning or losing keeps it going. Choosing an understanding instructor or team, or a class where children with disabilities join easily, is one way. If it's hard, starting from individual sports is also an option.
