Setting Learning Goals

How should I set learning goals suited to my child?

Set goals not as "up to here by grade level," but as a concrete small step just ahead of what the child can do now (their current point). Use as guides: (1) is it useful in life? (2) does the child feel it's needed or want to do it? (3) is it within reach of their current ability? Break big goals into small steps in a form where achievement can be confirmed. Sharing with the school's individual plan (an individualized support plan, etc.) so home and school face the same direction lets it build up without strain.
