How can I prevent my child, who can't say their name or address, from getting lost?

The less a child can speak or answer, the more it helps to prepare so information gets across even when they can't say it. Prepare an ID card or badge with their name and a parent's contact, a lost-child tag, and labeling on clothes and belongings. It also helps to photograph the day's outfit when going out, to practice beforehand what to do if separated ("wait where you are" or "go to a store clerk"), and to set a meeting spot for each destination. Carrying a GPS device is another option. Share the plan for getting separated with the preschool/school and those around you, too.
