Telling Helpful vs Interfering Routines

How can I tell apart a fixation that reassures my child from one that makes life difficult?

Guides for telling them apart: (1) is the child calm and enjoying it? (2) is it safe? (3) does it interfere with daily life, learning, or relationships? (4) is the child suffering from not being able to stop? If it brings security and doesn't interfere, it's fine to cherish it as is. On the other hand, if there's danger, life isn't functioning, or the child seems distressed, consider alternatives or gradual adjustment. When unsure, consulting the preschool/school or an occupational therapist or psychologist with specific situations helps you sort it out.
