Broadening Interests
My child only wants to do what they like. How can I broaden their interests?
A strong "like" is a big strength. First, without denying it, enjoy it together, and use it as a doorway to widen their world. Combining a like with a new activity—picture books, counting, or crafts featuring their favorite trains—makes it easier to enter. Keep new things short, small, and easy to succeed at. Forcing separation increases anxiety, so keep the favorite activity while adding new experiences in small amounts.
