Academics vs Life Skills
Which should I prioritize—academics or life skills?
A question families often puzzle over. In common: many professional bodies emphasize that the skills used in daily life (self-care, communication, life skills like money and time) matter greatly for later quality of life and independence. Reading, writing, and arithmetic matter too, but they gain meaning when usable in life. What the family decides: how much weight to place on academics differs by the child's strengths, their future picture, and your values. A guide: "is this learning useful in the child's life?" "what's troubling them most now?" Rather than either/or, tying learning to life situations brings both to life.
