When my child is absorbed in play, they sometimes don't turn around even when I call their name from nearby. Should I change how I call them?

When they're concentrating, sound can have trouble getting through. First move to the front or into their line of sight, call their name once, and wait a moment. If there's no response, add a signal that's easy for them to receive, like a light tap on the floor or a gentle touch on the shoulder, and once they turn, tell them the message briefly. Rather than calling repeatedly from far away, telling them once from a position that reaches them is clearer. If your child rarely responds to being called or to household sounds even in a quiet setting, you can raise it, including hearing, at a checkup or with your pediatrician.
