Are there fun games that encourage speech?

The best teaching material is "a game your child squeals with delight over." Lifting them high, tickling, chase, at the peak of the excitement, stop once, ask briefly "do you want to?", and wait. When a "more!" comes out through their gaze, voice, or body movement, start right up again. Repeating this "joyful play × wait a beat" is the royal road to drawing out your child's own initiative. Respond to any vocalization that comes out in play, in whatever form, and add short, easy-to-imitate words to the moment, like "whoosh-whoosh" or "beep."
