Eating & Drinking (Feeding)
Which specialist should I consult about eating concerns?
For eating concerns such as choking, meals taking a long time, picky eating, or not gaining weight, there are STs (speech-language pathologists) and OTs (occupational therapists) who specialize in feeding. Your entry point is one of these: 1) talk with your pediatrician and get a referral to a feeding clinic or rehabilitation department, 2) ask the ST/OT at the intervention or child development support your child attends, or 3) a dentist who is knowledgeable about oral function. When you go in, filming a short video of what mealtimes usually look like and bringing it along makes the evaluation much smoother. It's never too early to reach out, even at the "maybe I'm overthinking it" stage.
