HugMap FAQ
Eating & Drinking (Feeding)

What is a supportive position for eating?

A stable position can support safer, more efficient eating. A useful starting point is an upright, well-supported head and trunk, a stable pelvis, and feet resting on the floor or a footrest; the table should allow the arms to work comfortably. Some children benefit from the hips, knees, and ankles being near right angles, but there is no single posture that is correct for every child. Positioning should be individualized, especially if there are swallowing concerns, and changes such as chin position should be recommended by a feeding specialist when needed.
