What is sensory integration therapy? Does it work?

It's a branch of occupational therapy that nurtures sensory processing through play equipment and play (based on Ayres' theory of sensory integration). Many children have their posture, attention, and fine motor skills come together while using their bodies in a fun way; on the other hand, the scientific evidence for its effectiveness is considered still limited, and the American Academy of Pediatrics also recommends "setting goals and trying it for a defined period." Make use of it while watching for what does and doesn't suit your child.
