HugMap FAQ
Reading (Learning Letters)

My child reads familiar words but can't sound out new ones. Push phonics?

Build phonics gradually on top of the sight-word base: single letter sounds → blending simple CVC words (cat, dog) → digraphs (sh, ch, th) → blends (st, tr). Keep every text meaningful and success-based, and keep up lots of shared book reading — comprehension and motivation matter as much as decoding.
