Posture & Body Foundations
For a child with low muscle tone, what matters more than "practice"?
Rather than forced repetitive practice, what builds the foundation is: (1) an environment where posture is stable; (2) gross-motor play that develops the trunk and shoulders; (3) easy-to-hold tools (thick crayons, triangular pencils, spring-loaded scissors); and (4) play that engages a variety of senses. Rather than "making them do it," create "an environment that makes them want to do it." Words that recognize the process of getting there nurture the motivation to take on challenges.
