Toileting
When I suggest using the toilet, my child runs away and refuses to sit. What should we help them get used to first?
The seat height, flushing sound, smell, or feeling of unsupported feet may be frightening or uncomfortable. Without rushing toileting itself, try one adjustment at a time: sit briefly while clothed, flush only after your child has moved away, or use a stable footstool and child seat. A picture sequence such as “toilet, wash hands, finished” can make the ending clear. If your child refuses, it is fine to stop for the day. Seek medical advice first if there is significant fear, pain, or constipation.
