My child can pee in the toilet, but for poop they ask to be changed into a diaper. How can we make an easy transition to the toilet?

The diaper may feel reassuring, and a standing posture can make it easier to push. First, accept your child's request, and check that there's no constipation or pain. For the next step, decide together with your child and move forward in small ways, such as pooping in a diaper near the toilet, then in the bathroom, and then sitting on the seat using a step stool. Please don't scold or suddenly hide the diapers. If you notice hard stools, pain, blood, or ongoing holding back, talk with your pediatrician.
