Eating (Spoon & Spills)
What if my child cannot grip a spoon?
A spoon with a wide, non-slip handle may be easier to hold; an occupational therapist can also suggest safe handle adaptations. An overhand grasp can be a useful early stage. Build hand use through playful activities with appropriately sized chunky crayons, shakers, and other safe objects. Also check that the child's trunk and feet are supported, because stable seating can make hand use easier.
