When my child can't read numbers
Matching numbers to quantities comes before reading the numerals themselves. Even if a child can read the character "3," it's not usable if they don't understand three items. Tie numbers to quantity in daily life—counting snacks together as "1, 2, 3," or counting to 10 in the bath. Interest in numbers will always follow later.
