When my child doesn't understand big vs. small
Place items with a very large size difference side by side (an extra-large ball and a marble-sized one) and compare them with real objects. Repeat games where your child chooses: "Give me the big one." Comparing the size of two of the same item (a big bear and a little bear) is easier to grasp, and you can narrow the size gap little by little.
