When your child's emotions boil over easily
In the middle of an outburst, don't try to reason with them; keep them safe and quietly stay close. Once they've calmed down, name the feeling for them: "That was upsetting, wasn't it?" Regularly putting names to feelings, and deciding together on calming methods like deep breaths or a big hug, will help them gradually learn to regulate on their own.
