When my child doesn't show "I want to"

Start by lining up two things and letting them choose, "which one?" The experience of choosing for themselves nurtures the feeling of "I want to." It's also important to reflect on whether you're getting ahead of them too much. If you hand things over before they reach out, there's no chance for "I want to" to appear.
