When your child doesn't respond to pointing

Looking at the tip of a pointing finger is actually an advanced skill. Start by going over together to touch whatever you're pointing at. Instead of a far-off "look over there," point to something close by, touch it, and say, "This one, right?" Begin at zero distance, then gradually work toward "finding a farther object by following the direction of the finger."
