Managing Emotions & Behavior

Even after starting to play at home, my child quickly moves to another toy. How can I create an environment where it's easier to focus?

Switching play in short bursts may itself be how your child explores. First, watch how long they usually keep at a favorite activity. If you want to try things, change just one thing about the environment at a time — turn off the TV, put out only 2–3 toys, or signal the end with "one more time." Rather than making them keep at it longer, use as your yardstick whether the two of you could finish on a pleasant note. If difficulties continue in other settings like preschool, comparing notes with the teacher can offer clues.
