Imitation, Pointing & Joint Attention

When my child doesn't imitate

Reverse the order and have the adult imitate the child's movements and sounds first. The experience of "my movement being reflected back by another person" is the beginning of imitation. Once they notice they're being imitated, then show them a simple movement of yours (clapping, etc.). Placing your hand over theirs and doing it together also helps.
