Even when I call my child's name or play with them, they don't look at my face much. Should I encourage them to make eye contact?

Looking at a face for a long time isn't the only sign of interaction. Try to find your child's own way of responding—looking at the same object, pausing your voice and waiting, or moving your body closer. Rather than placing a favorite toy beside your face to draw their gaze, it's more natural for the adult to join in on what the child is looking at and share the fun together. There's no need to demand eye contact or move their face to make them follow. If you have concerns, including how they respond to being called or to sounds, you can talk about it at a checkup or with a pediatrician.
