Grasping, Holding & Releasing

When my child rakes things in with the whole hand

Raking things in like a garden rake is a natural step on the way toward pinching. Gradually move to smaller objects: larger blocks → smaller blocks → tiny puffed snacks (boro). Play that involves poking a finger into a hole, and thin items that can only be held between the thumb and index finger (like cards), also help draw out pinching.
