What if my child's sentences stay short?

There's no need to make longer speech your goal. It's more important that the back-and-forth continues, even with short sentences. Enjoy the give-and-take of conversation while adding one word to your child's sentence and replying back. For children who can write, "talking while writing" can sometimes lengthen their sentences.
