When I ask "What do you want to eat?" or "What did you do at preschool?", my child doesn't answer. Is there an easier way to ask?

Questions that require recalling and answering about something not in front of them can be hard. First show foods or photos and give a two-way choice like "apple or banana, which one?", and accept pointing or eye gaze as an answer too. For preschool, be specific, like "Did you play outside? Or in the room?" Avoid the tired moment right after coming home, don't press for an answer if none comes, and simply offering a topic yourself, like "It rained today, didn't it," is plenty.
