What if my child isn't producing two-word phrases yet?
It's effective to add one word to your child's single word and reply back ("vroom-vroom" → "the car came!"). Speak slowly and in short pieces so it's easy for them to repeat. Combining a point or a sign with a word is also great preparation for two-word phrases.
