HugMap FAQ
Pointing, Gestures & Imitation

What if my child uses their whole hand instead of pointing?

A whole-hand reach or gesture is meaningful communication. Acknowledge it and put the message into words, for example, “You want the ball.” Responding consistently helps your child learn that communication works. You can also model an index-finger point naturally during everyday play, without rejecting or physically forcing your child's current gesture.
